Every health blog ever written says how important it is to move our bodies everyday. The action of moving our bodies everyday can feel daunting though. The way it is portrayed in society often shows hefty gym workouts, hot yoga classes, long runs. Great in theory, overwhelming in execution. This post is all about finding ways to add movement to your daily routine without it feeling constrictive or overbearing. Keep reading and find something that works for you! Small steps in the right direction lead to big change. Trust me.
Morning Walk
Okay, any time of day walk. I live in Las Vegas, the ONLY time you’re thinking about going outside is in the morning because oooofta, it’s hot. There’s something to be said about breathing in some fresh air first thing in the morning as well. The neighborhood is still quiet, it’s a great way to slow down and be present. You don’t need a long time for this…10 min. around the block can do the trick. This is also the perrfect time to tune into your favorite podcast, playlist, or binaural beats.
Dance Party
You already know this is my favorite one. Shake your booty and jump around. Turn on your favorite jam or playlist and go full on living room dance party. Tapping into that joy and pleasure through dance can keep you vibrating there all day long if you let it. Live your best pop idol dreams and dance like no one’s watching.
Yoga/Stretch
Before you get all, “ughhhh of course“… hear me out. All you need is 5-10 minutes, a soft space to spread out, and a willingness to breathe through the tension. Stretch with a guided video, or listen to your own body and let it lead the way. If you’re looking for some great guided sessions, I love tuning into https://www.youtube.com/@MadFit . She has some great workouts for all levels and stretch sessions for just about every vibe you’re looking for.
Rec Sport
Can we talk about getting a workout and inner child play all wrapped up into one?! If this makes you nervous, grab a friend and ask them to play with you. It’s far less scary when you have a buddy or support system. Research local rec leagues, find a local court or course and play on your own. Tap into your love of the game and enjoy with the act of playing just to play. Leave the expectations from your glory days at home and enjoy moving your body in a fun way.
Hike
Immerse yourself in nature and balance your circadian rhythm. Find a hiking trail, a walking path, or full on mountain ascend, there’s no wrong path. If a full trail hike feels like too much, start small. You don’t have to make it to the end of the trail to turn around and hike back. Choose an appropriate pace for you. Listen to your body, and make your relationship with movement enjoyable for YOU.
Play With Your Kids/Pets
A fun way to add movement that will create connection and stimulation for the whole fam. I love getting up and running around the house with the cats. Playing fetch with hair ties is a fan favorite. If I had dogs, I would be the ultimate dog walker haha. Helloooo, you have a built in excuse to get outside everyday AND make your fur babe the happiest ever…DO IT. I tried to make our cats harness walkers, no such luck. They are 100% the drag on the floor, won’t move kind of kittens.
If you have kiddos, even better. Kids LOVE playtime. Find a family favorite game, a walk/bike ride around the block routine, a trip to the local park. I guarantee a little family play will provide fun and connection for the whole gang.
What are some of your favorite ways to move that I may have missed?
I love hearing about all the ways y’all are staying on the go with some healthy motion. Movement is medicine when you choose to use it that way. Love your body through it, give yourself grace in creating routines, and celebrate even the smallest wins. It’s through celebration that we encourage ourselves to keep going.
